Detectives say the dispute turned physical when Whitaker allegedly approached the other man’s vehicle and struck him in the head. In response, the victim discharged a firearm and shot Whitaker twice, claiming self-defense. The shooter briefly fled the scene but returned and cooperated fully with law enforcement.
After reviewing evidence and witness statements, investigators determined the shooting was an act of self-defense.
Joseph Whitaker was issued a summons for simple battery while recovering at the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
